En introduction a ce blog, je vous présente une pièce réalisée dans un contexte qui illustre bien le sens de ma démarche.
En 2010 LA OTRO DISENO FONDATION qui encourage la collaboration d’artistes de disciplines, d’horizons et de pratiques différentes , a confié le commissariat de l’exposition ULTRABAROCCO à Valeria SIEMELIK designer mexicaine installée aux Pays Bas. Cette exposition s’est tenue a MEXICO dans un ancien couvent “ Ex Teresa “ reconverti en Centre pour l’art expérimental . Elle était liée à un Symposium intitulé “ Walking the Gray Area but focusing the theme on Poscolonialism and the complex relations between ex-colonies and ex-colonizing countries. Cette exposition a réuni des artistes originaires d’Europe et des Amériques autour du concept du post colonial et des relations complexes entre ex colonies et pays colonisateurs. Valeria a constitué trois binômes : Christina Filipe ( Portugal ) / Heleno Bernardi ( Bresil ) Eugénia Martinez ( Mexique ) / Estrela Saez Vilanova ( Espagne ) Alex Burke ( Martinique ) / Benjamin Lignel ( France ) Chacun de ces binômes comprenait un artiste visuel et un designer en joaillerie. Un blog a été mis a notre disposition pour communiquer,et échanger des informations. J’ai indiqué que j’étais intéressé par le rôle de l’église catholique dans la conquête, l’utilisation de l’aspect spectaculaire voir impressionnant des cérémonies,des mises en scène, des processions, des costumes, des décors, des chants. J’ai soumis a Benjamin une parure de tête. En retour il m’a fait part de son intérêt pour les ors précolombiens et aussi les augmentations corporelles. Il m’a proposé d’adjoindre à la parure deux globes en or et un étuis pénien. Une conversation s’est engagée sur le corps absent / présent. Pour donner forme à l’ensemble, comme une ponctuation j’ai proposé une paire de sandale au sol. Cette aventure m’a conforté dans l’intérêt que je porte a l’histoire des Amériques, matrice du monde global,” le tout monde ” qui suscite tant de crainte et d’angoisse mais recèle la promesse d’un monde plus équilibré. L’exposition est devenue itinérante, elle a été montrée a Seattle, a New York, récemment a Tallin ( Estonie )
To start this blog, I would like to describe how I made a work and the context illustrating my personal approach. In 2010,’ La otro diseno foundation’  which encourages close cooperation with artists from different fields and nationalities  entrusted the direction of the exhibition « Ultrabarocco » to Valeria Siemelik, a Mexican designer living in The Netherlands. This exhibition took place in Mexico city, in a former convent « Ex Teresa » converted into an experimental arts center. It was in relation with a symposuim entitled « Walking the gray area but focusing the theme on postcolonialism and the complex relations between ex-colonies and ex-colonizing countries ». The exhibition brought together artists from Europe and the Americas. Valeria set up 3 pairs of artists : – Christina Filipe from Portugal and Helena Bernardi from Brazil – Eugenia Martinez from Mexico and Estrela Saez Vilanova from Spain – Alex Burke from Martinique and Benjamin Lignel from France. Each pair was made up of a visual artist and a jewel designer. We were given a blog to communicate and exchange opinions. I pointed out that I was interested in the part played by the catholic Church in colonization, in the dramatic even impressive use of ceremonies,  stagings, processions, costumes, settings and sacred chants. I suggested making a headdress to Benjamin. In return, he told me he was interested in Pre-Colombian golds and in corporal augmentation. He offered me to add 2 golden globes and a penial sheath. We started dealing with the present vs absent body. To give the all thing a shape I suggested a pair of sandals on the ground as a final touch. This experience reinforced my interest in the history of The Americas,origin of  the global world, the world as a whole, which arouses so much fears and anxieties but contains the promise of a more balanced world. Now it is an itinerant exhibition which was shown in Seattle, New-York and lately in Talin (Estonia).
